Assam-Meghalaya Border Row: CMs Himanta, Conrad To Meet Amit Shah Over Inter-State Border Dispute
Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute: Both the Chief Ministers will submit their recommendations to the Home Minister regarding resolving the border dispute in six areas.
New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah today.
Both the Chief Ministers will submit their recommendations to the Home Minister regarding resolving the border dispute in six areas. The meeting will take place in New Delhi after 6 pm today.
Sangma made the announcement after chairing a meeting of the Meghalaya cabinet on Wednesday. In the cabinet meeting, recommendations of three regional committees set up by his government on the border dispute were approved.
Sangma said that the recommendations of the regional committees of Meghalaya and the Assam government would be given to the Union Home Ministry for further action.

“We will submit at least one common report and then I think the Indian Government will have to proceed according to the law,” he added. He said that after the discussion with the Home Ministry will reach a conclusion and demarcation will be done after the parliamentary process. Sangma said that the Survey of India will have to come joint observation may have to be done and the bill will also have to be passed.
Sangma said that both the states have agreed upon the villages in the border areas and the natural boundaries including rivers and forests have been identified. There are 36 villages at six different places with a total area of 36.79 square kilometers.
Sangma said that the dispute regarding the border has been there for the last 50 years and has been a difficult task to resolve but the efforts of both states have helped in reaching a solution.
