Assam CM Gets SRK's Phone Call Hours After He Remarked 'Who Is SRK?'

Assam Chief Minister on Twitter confirmed that he got a call from Shahrukh Khan regarding violence concerning the screening of his film 'Pathaan'. The tweet came hours after he remarked who is SRK.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, after remarking 'Who Is Shahrukh Khan' at a press conference, on Sunday said that he got a call from the Bollywood actor at 2 am. On the call, Khan expressed his concern about an incident in Guwahati during the screening of his film 'Pathaan'. Some Bajrang Dal members entered a theatre in Guwahati and burned down Shahrukh Khan's movie Pathaan posters.

Sarma in a tweet said that he assured Shah Rukh Khan that it's the duty of the state government to maintain law and order. He continued to say that the government will enquire and ensure that no such incident happens again.

The tweet read: "Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we talked today morning at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during screening of his film. I assured him that it’s duty of state govt to maintain law & order. We’ll enquire and ensure no such untoward incidents."

His tweet came a day after he remarked "Who is Shahrukh Khan?" while talking to the media. On being told Shah Rukh Khan is a Bollywood superstar, he said people in the state should be concerned about Assamese films, and not Bollywood.

When Himanta Biswa Sarma was further asked about this, he said: "Khan has not called me, though many from Bollywood actors do so, regarding the problem. But if he does, I will look into the matter. Action will be taken if law and order have been violated and a case has been filed."

Khan's film has been mired in controversy over its song 'Besharam Rang', which has faced opposition from many quarters. Protesters claim that the song was an attempt to demean Hinduism and the saffron colour.
