Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Meets Amit Shah; Says No Discussion On Shaheen Bagh Issue

This was Kejriwal's first meeting with Central leadership after his party AAP swept the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections in the national capital by winning as many as 62 out of the 70 assembly seats.

New Delhi: Three days after taking oath as Delhi Chief Minister for the third consecutive time, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in the national capital on Wednesday afternoon. Soon after the meeting, Kejriwal took to Twitter and wrote that he had a 'fruitful' meeting with the Home Minister. "Met Hon'ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji. Had a very good and fruitful meeting. Discussed several issues related to Delhi. Both of us agreed that we will work together for development of Delhi." he wrote on Twitter. "It was a good meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere. We held discussions on various issues. We agreed that the Central govt and Delhi govt need to work together for the development of Delhi. We will work together," Kejriwal said while speaking to reporters after the meeting. Delhi CM also said that no discussion on the issue of Shaheen Bagh protest took place in his meeting with Shah. "It is a courtesy call. He is to seek Centre's cooperation to run Delhi government smoothly," said a senior Delhi government officer told news agency IANS. Kejriwal has often been at loggerheads with the Centre on the issue of law and order, which comes under the control of the Union Home Ministry. This was Kejriwal's first meeting with Central leadership after his party AAP swept the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections in the national capital by winning as many as 62 out of the 70 assembly seats. Kejriwal along with six other AAP ministers took oath at a mega ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan, outside Delhi's iconic Red Fort on Sunday. While addressing a massive crowd at Ramlila Maidan after taking oath as Delhi CM, Kejriwal had said that he wanted to work for the national capital with support of Central government and also sought blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for smooth governance in the capital. Kejriwal had also said as the elections are over, the politics is also over and he has forgiven his political opponents for the remarks they made during the election campaigning.
