Amit Shah Slams Mamata Banerjee Over Migrants' Issue; TMC Dares Centre To Prove Allegations Or Apologise

Amit Shah has written to a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing his dismay over the state government’s lack of support to the centre in transporting migrant workers.

New Delhi: Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has asked for proof from the centre over the allegation that the state government is not allowing trains transporting migrant workers. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah had written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing his dismay over the state government’s lack of support to the Centre. According to a report by IANS, Shah had written to Mamata Banerjee saying that the Centre was not getting the ‘expected support’ from the state government in the transportation of the stranded migrants. Shah wrote in the letter the state government not facilitating trains transporting migrant labourers was an ‘injustice’. From May 1, the central government had stated Shramik Special trains to transport migrants to their native places. The centre has alleged that the West Bengal government is not allowing trains with migrant workers to reach the state. He also claimed in the letter that the migrants from West Bengal were eager to reach home, but the state government has not been allowing the trains to enter the state. "Migrants from West Bengal are also eager to reach home. Central govt is facilitating but we are not getting expected support from West Bengal," The TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee who is the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that ‘Amit Shah should apologise or prove his allegations’ that the state government was not allowing trains with migrant workers. He added that the home minister was spreading a "bundle of lies" after staying silent for weeks. He expressed his opinion through a tweet in which he wrote, The centre has also earlier accused the Mamata Banerjee government of hiding deaths related to coronavirus pandemic and of using strategies that are counterproductive in containing the virus. Last month, BJP's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya had written a 6-page letter to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of "manipulating death counts" due to COVID-19. At present, the state has recorded 1678 cases of coronavirus and according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare 160 people have died due to complications arising from Covid-19.
