All’s Not Well Between Prashant Kishor & Congress? Poll Strategist Points To GOP’s ‘Deep-Rooted Problems’

There has been speculation within and outside Congress over Prashant Kishor’s induction into the party.

New Delhi: In a message referring to the Congress, poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Friday tweeted that those looking for a quick revival of the grand old party-led opposition following the Lakhimpur Kheri violence are in for a “big disappointment”.

The tweet comes as it was being speculated that he was in talks with the Gandhi family to join the Congress party.

“People looking for a quick, spontaneous revival of GOP led opposition based on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident are setting themselves up for a big disappointment,” Kishor wrote on his Twitter handle.

“Unfortunately there are no quick fix solutions to the deep-rooted problems and structural weakness of GOP,” he added in the tweet.

Senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily had last month lent strong support for Kishor's induction into the Congress. The former Union Minister went on to say that those opposing his entry into the party were “anti-reform”, as quoted by news agency PTI.

While there has been speculation within and outside Congress over Prashant Kishor’s likely induction, there has been no official confirmation regarding the same.

Kishor, who many believed would take over the charge to revamp Congress and its high command’s image, appears to be hinting that things are not working out between him and the party leadership.

The tweet comes after the Congress delegation’s visit to Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday, where former party president Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the kin of deceased farmer Lovpreet Singh.

Four farmers were mowed down by an SUV in Lakhimpur Kheri when a group agitating against the contentious agrarian laws was holding a demonstration against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Two BJP workers and a driver were allegedly beaten to death by the angry protesters. A local journalist is also among the eight dead.
