Ahmedabad: 3-storey building collapses; 1 dead, rescue operations underway

As per the rescue officials, 4 to 5 people are yet to be rescued and are trapped under the debris.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a three-storey building reduced to rubble in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Odhav area on Sunday night. The incident claimed the life of one person; whereas atleast 4 people were rescued safely. As per the rescue officials, 4 to 5 people are yet to be rescued and are trapped under the debris. The 3-storey block was in a dilapidated condition. Notably, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had already the given notice to the people living there to evacuate the building. It has been reported that the building had some cracks and the people were issued a warning regarding the same. The rescue teams are taking help of sniffer dogs to find out if anyone is trapped under the debris and thereafter bulldozers are being used to remove heavy rocks.

Rajesh Bhatt, the Additional Chief Fire Officer was quoted as saying that there were total 32 flats in the building, notice was already issued and it was vacated. However,  it will later be ascertained that how did people enter again.

According to report, two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have left from Gandhinagar for Ahmedabad's Odhav area where the two buildings collapsed earlier on Sunday.

The people who were rescued alive were immediately rushed to the hospital. More details on the same are awaited.
