Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said made a controversial statement on chanting Om during Yoga, trying to relate it with religion. Yoga Guru Ramdev has retaliated.
New Delhi: While the country is celebrating the 7th International Yoga Day, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has posted a controversial tweet about chanting the word 'OM'.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi tweeted, "Nither Yoga will become more powerful by chanting Om, nor will the power of Yoga be reduced by saying Allah. "

It is pertinent to note that chanting OM is considered a significant part while performing Yoga and the same has been practiced in ancient history.
After Singhvi's tweet surfaced, Baba Ramdev has responded to the Congress leader and said that chanting Om doesn't reflect any religion, and people who believe that should practice Yoga to understand the power of Om and that God is one and the same for all, irrespective of the religion.
Baba Ramdev said, "God, Allah, Ishwar, Parmatma all are one. In such a situation, nobody should have a problem chanting Om as it doesn't reflect any religion and we are not forbidding anyone from believing in God. Om is not a person or an idol."
Why do we chant OM?
Everything around us is pulsating and vibrating—nothing is really standing still. The sound Om, when chanted, vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. As such, AUM is the basic sound of the universe, so by chanting it, we are symbolically and physically acknowledging our connection to nature and all other living beings.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on its importance and said that Yoga has been a key strength after the country was hit by Covid 19. PM Modi began his address to the nation by wishing wellness and good health for "every country, every society, and every individual".
