30 Punjab AAP MLAs Likely To Jump Ship: Congress's Big Claim After Delhi Loss
Congress' Pratap Singh Bajwa claimed that 30 AAP MLAs in Punjab would jump ship after the AAP was defeated in Delhi elections. BJP emerged victorious after securing 48 seats in the national capital.
Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has claimed that there is a possibility that at least 30 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs would jump the ship after their party's shocking defeat in Delhi Assembly polls. Reacting to this, Congress MLA Pargat Singh, while speaking with ABP, said that only Bajwa could clarify these claims, but added that it will be challenging for BJP to return in Punjab.
This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 48 seats out of the 70 constituencies in Delhi in a historic comeback after 27 years. BJP's win defeated AAP that had been in power for over a decade in the national capital.
Targeting the AAP, Pargat Singh said that Kejriwal's party came to power in Punjab with the promise of a different political approach based on the 'Delhi Model', but that model had failed.
He further spoke about the BJP's victory and how it would be difficult for the party to make a comeback in Punjab. Singh said it would be challenging for the BJP to return in both Punjab and West Bengal as the people in these states "do not favour the BJP". He went to explain that these two states had neither Congress nor BJP in power earlier, but despite BJP’s efforts, returning to power here remains challenging.
On Congress senior leader Pratap Bajwa's statement that Arvind Kejriwal might try to replace Bhagwant Mann as Punjab CM, Singh said that Mann is a "controlled CM" as he is not truly in-charge and his authority rests in Delhi.
Bajwa had hinted that Bhagwant Mann was in touch with the Home Ministry and that he could switch to the BJP as he predicted a rift in AAP's Punjab unit. He noted that AAP secured 95 seats in the Assembly elections in Punjab with around 46 percent votes, but after three years the vote share declined to 26-27 percent. Bajwa also predicted tough times ahead for AAP in Punjab.
Pargat Singh also reacted to BJP leader Jitendra's statement that the BJP would regain power in other states as well after Delhi victory. He remarked that parties make grand claims after victories and that the BJP model has been the "biggest failure" in India. "The party's divisive politics is unacceptable to the people," he said.
Singh expressed disappointment over Congress' performance in the Delhi polls, but pointed out that the vote percentage had increased compared to the previous elections. He mentioned that the grand old party had expected to bag at least 8-10 seats and was disappointed to even open their account again.
