Independence Day 2018: Every year on 15th August the country celebrates freedom from the British rule. As we celebrate independence, here are five famous speeches that one must know about.

NEW DELHI: On the midnight of August 15, 1947, India became an independent nation. Independence was a result of the numerous sacrifices made by numerous freedom fighters and patriots. Here are a few speeches that you can listen to which were given by the tall leaders of our country who served the nation in various capacities.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru's "Tryst with destiny speech"
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, delivered this speech to the Indian Constituent Assembly in The Parliament, on the eve of India's Independence, towards midnight on 14 August 1947.
  • Subhash Chandra Bose's "Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom"
Speech in Burma (July 1944) as quoted in The Great Speeches of Modern India.
  • Mahatma Gandhi's “Do or Die Speech”
In his speech, he called for determined, but passive resistance that signified the certitude that Gandhi foresaw for the movement, best described by his call to Do or Die.
  • Dr Ambedkar’s In Parliament 
The speech he had put forward his experiences and the future strategy.
  • Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s "Freedom is my birthright and I shall have it"
Tilak coined the famous speech "Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it" at the first anniversary of the formation of the Home Rule League, in 1917, at Nasik. The speech inspired lakhs to participate in the Indian freedom movement.
