Hyderabad: A 70-year-old woman who reportedly died of COVID at Vijayawada hospital in Andhra Pradesh and buried by her husband Muthyala Gaddayya returned home from her burial in her own memorial service.

This unusual event took place in the Christianpet village of Jaggaiyapet Mandal in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to a report published on the NDTV news site; an elderly woman was admitted to the Government General Hospital, Vijayawada, for Covid treatment on May 12. Her husband, Muthyala Gaddayya who visited her daily did not find her in the Covid ward on May 15. When he enquired for the same the nurse told him that she must have succumbed to the virus.

Later, the family members who received the wrapped body from the hospital mortuary did not bother about giving a proper check to the body and hurriedly took it to their village and performed the last rites in a rush scaring the spread of infection.

Nearly 15 days later the family arranged a memorial service for her on June 1. And very next day, the 70-year-old woman Girijamma returned home all by herself giving a shocking surprise to the family. The woman also said that the hospital assisted her with Rs 3000 to reach home.

Apparently, there no police complaint against the Vijayawada hospital or so, but this incident indeed raised a question on the management of COVID patients in hospitals in the state.
