Financial Express Managing Editor Sunil Jain Passes Away Due To Covid-19; PM Modi & Colleagues Express Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and several others expressed grief upon acknowledging the demise of prominent journalist Sunil Jain.

A prominent journalist and Managing Editor of Financial Express, Sunil Jain succumbed to covid-19 related complications at AIIMS on Saturday, May 15. 

His sister Sandhya Jain confirmed the unfortunate development in a Twitter statement. "My brother, Sunil Jain, passed away this evening after post-Covid complications. He suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the day, but was revived, and finally passed after another cardiac arrest around 8.30 p.m. The doctors and all medical staff at AIIMS did their best and more. I thank you for standing by us in this dark hour," Sandhya said. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and his several colleagues expressed grief upon acknowledging the demise of 58-year-old columnist. 

Taking to his official twitter account, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "You left us too soon, Sunil Jain. I will miss reading your columns and hearing your frank as well as insightful views on diverse matters. You leave behind an inspiring range of work. Journalism is poorer today, with your sad demise. Condolences to family and friends. Om Shanti." 

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also extended condolances. 

Several others politicians and journalists inluding The Indian Express Executive Director Anant Goenka, Congress memeber Pawan Khera, and BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda also mourned Jain's demise. 

 

Sunil Jain began his career as a consultant conducting market surveys. He then moved to FICCI where has was in charge of the export policy desk. Soon, he shifted to the field of journalism. He initially started working as reporter in India Today magazine in 1991.

Later, he headed all business and economy coverage for about six years for The Indian Express, and then joined Business Standard as a Senior Associate Editor for about 8 years.
