Expected Hyundai Venue Prices: Will It Undercut Ford EcoSport & Mahindra XUV300?
We estimate the prices of the upcoming Venue sub-4m SUV and see how it would compare to its rivals
The Hyundai Venue, whose launch is scheduled for 21 May 2019, will be the brand’s smallest SUV offering yet. As a sub-4m SUV, the Venue will be positioned under the Creta but expect the higher variants to be priced closer to some of the low and mid-spec Creta variants.
While the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon are likely to undercut the Hyundai on price, the Venue should be competitively priced against the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300. The Korean entrant to the segment will get three engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel. However, an automatic transmission will be available with the turbo-petrol engine only.
The Hyundai Venue will be offered in 5 variants. Here’s our expected variant-wise price list:
Only the lower-spec variants of the Venue will be available with the Elite i20-sourced 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual that makes 83PS and 115Nm. The star engine will be the new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol that makes 120PS and 172Nm, which will be available with a choice of a 6-speed manual as well as the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 1.4-litre diesel option is a bit more versatile and used in various models including the Creta. It has an output of 90PS and 220Nm and will be offered only with the 6-speed manual transmission.
The Venue’s performance figures don’t take it to the top of the charts but it’s not far off either. In the sub-4m SUV segment, Ford’s petrol engines offer the most power while Mahindra’s diesel engine puts the XUV300 atop the diesel options. However, a diesel automatic option is only available with the Brezza and the Nexon. So, how would the upcoming Venue’s pricing be different from its sub-4m SUV rivals? Let’s see.
The Hyundai Venue is expected to have higher entry-level and top-end prices in comparison to the Vitara Brezza and Nexon as it will be positioned as a more premium offering. However, we do expect the base-spec Venue petrol to undercut the petrol variants of the EcoSport and XUV300. On the other hand, the diesel engine option of the Venue will be priced similarly to the diesel variants of the Ford and Mahindra sub-compact SUVs.
