Cyclone Michaung: Sudden Rain With Chilly Wind Lashes Kolkata, South Bengal Districts
Sudden rain with chilly winds greets residents of Kolkata and a few other districts of South Bengal on Thursday.
Sudden rain and chilly wind disrupted normal life for Kolkata residents on Thursday morning. Some other districts of South Bengal also received light rain starting Wednesday evening and continuing the next day as cyclonic storm Michaung weakened into a less marked low-pressure area over Chhattisgarh, the weather department said. The IMD predicted a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain over east India till Friday morning.
Kolkata and other south districts experienced the first feel of winter this season after the rain and wind brought the mercury down but posed difficulty for officer goers. Daily commuters struggled with traffic snarls at some places in the city and adjoining Salt Lake area.
The city recorded a minimum temperature three notches above normal at 19.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday and the maximum temperature is predicted to be below normal owing to the prevailing weather conditions, the weather department said.
