Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: Following the Centre's instruction to states and union territories, all districts in Delhi have been given targets according to the active cases there to increase the number of Covid tests being conducted, PTI reported.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the city had been conducting 50,000 to 60,000 coronavirus tests daily for the last six months. This could be raised further to 75,000-80,000 tests per day in view of the latest guidelines.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George warned the public on Wednesday about the 'super-spread' of the Covid pandemic, claiming that the state was seeing a third wave.
"Delta (variant) was the reason for more cases during the second wave. The third wave happened before it was completely over. Now, both Delta and Omicron are contributing to the surge in COVID cases," Kerala Health Minister was quoted by PTI in its report.
In other news, an expert panel of India's federal drug regulator on Wednesday recommended providing regular market permission to Covid vaccines Covishield and Covaxin, which are presently only approved for emergency use in the country, subject to specific restrictions, as per the official sources.
