Change Delhi’s Name To Indraprastha, Will Bring Rain & Prosperity: All India Hindu Mahasabha Chief

Statements by the All India Hindu Mahasabha chief came a day after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said that the party has prepared a list of 40 villages in the national capital to change their name.

New Delhi: All India Hindu Mahasabha chief Chakrapani Maharaj on Friday said that the national capital should be renamed from Delhi to Indraprastha as the name carries a lot of importance. He also claimed that renaming the city will also bring rain — which is currently reeling under soaring temperatures — and prosperity.

“Change the name of Delhi to Indraprastha, because the name has a lot of importance. If Delhi is renamed to Indraprastha, then rain and prosperity will also come to Delhi,” said Chakrapani Maharaj.

According to the Hindu body chief, the national capital had got its current name of Delhi as “there was a king in the Tomar dynasty whose palace had loose pipe, from where he kept the name ‘dheeli’ (loose) which later became Dilli.”

“When a child is born in our house, we keep their name according to the rituals and here Delhi got its name from a loose pipe of a palace. So it should be renamed,” he added further.

Chakrapani Maharaj said that a signature campaign will be run in this regard and the matter will be placed before the Central government.

These statements by the All India Hindu Mahasabha chief came a day after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said that the party has prepared a list of 40 villages in the national capital to change their name.

“This decision has been taken by the people of the village because this name is a symbol of slavery. Therefore, the councillors of BJP will pass it in the house of the corporation and send it to the Delhi government through the MCD commissioner,” Gupta had said.

On Wednesday, the Delhi BJP president took to Twitter saying that south Delhi’s Mohammadpur village has been changed to Madhavpuram. He said that since the Aam Aadmi Party-led government did not act on the proposal submitted by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in December, the party members have renamed the place on their own.

In the Mahabharata, Delhi finds mention as 'Indraprastha' where Pandavas used to live. In due course eight more cities came alive adjacent to Indraprastha: Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad.
