Calcutta HC Orders Post-Mortem Of BJP Worker Arjun Chowrasia At Command Hospital After Mother Files Plea

The chief medical officer of the Command Hospital in Alipore will form a team of specialists to conduct a post-mortem, said the bench.

New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court in its order on Friday said that the post-mortem of BJYM worker Arjun Chowrasia, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in North Kolkata's Kashipur area, will be conducted at the Command Hospital. BJP approached the court and demanded a post-mortem of Chaurasia under the supervision of the court and urged a stay on the police investigation from the court. Chowrasia was found hanging in an abandoned building in the Ghosh Bagan area under mysterious circumstances.

A bench led by Justice Prakash Shrivastava ordered that post-mortem of Chowrasia is directed at the Command Hospital.

The chief medical officer of the Command Hospital in Alipore will form a team of specialists to conduct a post-mortem, said the bench.

The process will be video graphed in the presence of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of South 24 Parganas district during the post-mortem, said the bench, also comprising Justice R Bharadwaj.

It further guided the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to guarantee that the body is securely taken to the Command Hospital, implied for treating defence personnel, from the state-run RG Kar Hospital in the northern area of the city.

The bench additionally guided the police chief to guarantee the security of Chowrasia's family. It said that the matter will be taken up with a hearing again on Tuesday.

BJP leader and legal counselor Priyanka Tibrewal moved the court on behalf of Chowrasia's mom, asserting that the unnatural demise was associated with the violence in the state, following the 2021 assembly polls.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to West Bengal, visited Chowrasia's home and met his family members.

"Y'day TMC govt completed one year of its term. Today political murders have started in the state. BJP condemns the murder of Arjun Chowrasia. I met the grieving family, his grandmother was also beaten. BJP demands CBI inquiry into the incident," Amit Shah told reporters.

Earlier, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul attacked on CM Mamata Banerjee-led government saying, "Murder of BJP worker is not a new thing. The significance here is that one year after the elections when the Home Minister is coming, our worker has been murdered. The CM wants zero-opposition. If anyone speaks against them, they would remove them."

Earlier today, the mother of the deceased BJP worker approached the Calcutta High Court seeking a stay order on the autopsy of Chowrasia. In her petition, she has sought the formation of a special team headed by any doctor from AIIMS to conduct an autopsy. She also said that there was no trust in the state police. Her application has been accepted by the Calcutta High Court.

Arjun Chaurasia, 27, was the vice-president of the North Kolkata Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Mandal. BJP alleges that Chaurasia was brutally murdered and then hanged.
