BMW G 310 R And G 310 GS Launched In India

BMW Motorrad has launched its two entry level motorcycles, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS, in India. Priced at Rs 2.99 lakh, the G 310 R competes with the KTM 390 Duke (Rs 2.4 lakh), Bajaj Dominar 400 (Rs 1.62 lakh), Mahindra Mojo XT 300 (Rs 1.79 lakh), and Benelli TNT 300 (Rs 3.43 lakh). On the other hand, the terrain-taming G 310 GS (Rs 3.49 lakh) locks horns with the Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 1.58 lakh) and Kawasaki Versys-X 300 (Rs 4.69 lakh).

Both the motorcycles share the same 313cc single-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled fuel-injected powerplant. It produces 34PS of power at 9500rpm and 28Nm of peak torque at 7500rpm in both the motorcycles. Power is transmitted via a 6-speed transmission with a chain drive, which is of endless Z-ring type in the G 310 GS. This offers superior flexibility, lubrication and also lasts longer than the road-biased endless O-ring chain in the G 310 R. However, both the motorcycles lack a slipper clutch.

The two bikes are built on a bolted steel frame with the engine as the load-bearing member. The frame rides on 41mm upside down forks up front and a monoshock at the rear with adjustable preload. In the GS the suspension travel stands at 180mm at both ends, while the G 310 R gets a 140mm front and 131mm rear suspension travel.

While the G 310 R rolls on 17-inch alloys at both ends, the G 310 GS features a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear alloy. Tyres for both the motorcycles measure 110-section up front and 150-section at the rear. The GS wears Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tyres while the G 310 R sports road-biased Michelin Pilot Street rubber.

Brakes for the two bikes include a 300mm front disc with radial calliper and a 240mm rear disc, both with dual-channel ABS as standard. On the G 310 GS, the ABS is switchable. Bookings for both the products are open at a token amount of Rs 50,000. A three-year / unlimited km warranty is standard across both the bikes.
