ABP News' 'Newsmaker Of The Year' Awards Spotlight Leading Trailblazers, Kumar Vishwas, Manu Bhaker Among Winners

ABP News' inaugural 'Newsmaker of the Year' awards celebrated excellence across industries, honoring individuals who emerged as trailblazers in 2024.

ABP News Newsmaker of the Year 2024 recognised business leaders, actors, influencers, sports icons, and individuals working to improve education, healthcare, and social welfare.

ABP News hosted its inaugural 'Newsmaker of the Year' awards, recognising individuals who have not only made headlines but also left an indelible mark in their respective fields. The awards celebrated excellence across various sectors, honouring business leaders, celebrated actors, social media influencers, and sports icons who have inspired the nation with their achievements.

The event spotlighted those who have driven industry innovations and athletes who have brought glory to India. This prestigious gathering aimed to highlight the stories of individuals who defined success in 2024.

Prominent personalities, including Smriti Irani, former Union Minister of Education, Women and Child Development, and Textiles; Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs; and Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, attended the ceremony as chief guests and presented the awards to the winners.

The awards covered several categories, including 'Poet of the Year', 'Business Leader of the Year', 'Educator of the Year', 'Entrepreneur of the Year', 'Green Crusader of the Year', 'Healthcare Pioneer of the Year', 'Influencer of the Year', 'Breakthrough Performer of the Year', 'Actor of the Year', 'Actress of the Year', 'Director of the Year', 'Hunger Heroes of the Year', 'Sports Icon of the Year', and 'Rising Star of the Year'.

Kumar Vishwas, Dr Shalabh Arora, Manu Bhaker, Kartik Aaryan Among Awardees

Among the winners were notable figures such as Kumar Vishwas, named Poet of the Year; Savi Soin, Business Leader of the Year; Subir Shukla, Educator of the Year; and Krishna Jackie Shroff, Entrepreneur of the Year. Other winners included Shyam Sunder Paliwal, honoured as Green Crusader of the Year, and Dr. Shalabh Arora, recognised as Healthcare Pioneer of the Year.

Kumar Vishwas is a renowned Hindi poet who was also a significant part of Anna Hazare's Jan Lokpal movement. He also had brief stint in politics as a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party. 

For the uninitiated, 'Business Leader of the Year' Savi Soin has been associated with Qualcomm for more than 20 years and has been a part of Qualcomm's senior leadership team for the last decade. During his tenure, he has helped shape the strategic direction of the company in several leadership roles.

In 2006, Shyam Sunder Paliwal, honoured as Green Crusader of the Year, lost his daughter and in her memory he started a campaign to plant 111 trees to celebrate the birth of every newborn girl child. Under Shyam Sunder Paliwal's Pipalantri model, parents of girl children are expected to nurture the trees and sign an affidavit promising not to marry their daughters before the age of 18 or commit female foeticide. 

Dr. Shalabh Arora was acknowledged as Healthcare Pioneer of the Year for his contributions to improving oncology services in Uttarakhand's Haldwani. He established the Medical Oncology Department at Ujala Cygnus Central Hospital in Haldwani. His initiative brought a ray of hope to cancer patients, which led to an increase in oncology services in the region. Due to Dr. Shalabh's efforts, people are able access high-tech cancer treatment like chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell transplant in Haldwani.

'Educator of the Year' Subir Shukla, a former educational quality advisor to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), played a pivotal role in developing the quality framework for the implementation of the Right to Education and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Currently, he serves as the principal coordinator for IGNUS Group, where he spearheads a comprehensive and systematic transformation in education. Through his expertise and guidance, Shukla advises state and national governments across Asia, fostering significant changes in the education sector.

Manu Bhaker was recognised as Sports Icon of the Year, and Mohammad Amaan was named Rising Star of the Year.

Manu, named 'Sports Icon of the Year', became the first Indian woman athlete to win two medals at the same Olympics. This year, Manu won not one but two medals at the Paris Olympics 2024—a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event and a second medal in the 10m mixed team event.

Meanwhile, in Aman's captaincy, the Indian team reached the finals in the Under 19 Asia Cup 2024. India played the final match of the Under 19 Asia Cup 2024 against Bangladesh and delivered a commendable performance overall despite the final loss.

Kartik Aaryan was named 'Actor of the Year' following his recent blockbuster 'Bhool Bhulaiya 3' and widely acclaimed 'Chandu Champian', while Yami Gautam received 'Actress of the Year' for her performance in Article 370. Amit Joshi was awarded 'Director of the Year' for helming Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer film 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya'.

The Robin Hood Army, a volunteer organisation combating hunger, was recognised as the 'Hunger Heroes of the Year'. Krishna Shroff was celebrated as Entrepreneur of the Year for her unique entrepreneurial path.

Additionally, Shalini Passi received the 'Influencer of the Year' award as she became a viral sensation post her debut appearance in Netflix's 'Bollywood Wives vs Fabulous Lives'.
