2018 Renault Kwid Spied; Launch Expected Soon
The 2018 Renault Kwid gets subtle styling tweaks and some additional features
The updated 2018 Renault Kwid has been spied inside a dealer stockyard hinting at an imminent launch, probably just before the upcoming festive season. Renault has incorporated a few styling tweaks and additional goodies in the 2018 model to keep the product competitive. Important to note here is that this is not the mid-cycle refresh or facelift of the Kwid, which was launched on 24 September 2015.
Exterior changes are subtle and limited. For instance, it gets a new chrome applique on the front grille and redesigned ‘Kwid’ decals on the doors as seen on the spied car. The outside rearview mirrors and wheel caps now get a dark gunmetal finish, probably with select colours like silver and in select variants.
On the inside, the updated Kwid will get chrome door handles and a rear charging port. The 7-inch infotainment system will now relay feed from the rear parking camera, which is placed between Renault’s diamond logo as is the case with the Brazil-spec Kwid.

These updates are expected to be introduced in the range-topping RXL variants and the Kwid Climber. However, we think the Kwid Climber might continue with its existing exterior theme. Mechanically, the updated Kwid is most likely to carry forward the same set of engines -- 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre. The 1.0-litre engine will continue to be offered with the option of an AMT (automated-manual transmission).
What remains to be seen though is whether Renault adds creep function to the Kwid’s AMT this time around. The Datsun redi-GO, which also shares its powertrain with the Kwid, gets this feature. The creep function allows the car to crawl ahead in Drive mode without using the accelerator, just like conventional automatics. It is a boon in bumper-to-bumper traffic as it allows you to keep the car moving without pressing the accelerator.
Since there are no cosmetic updates, we think the update should not affect the prices much, especially those of lower variants. The top variant, however, with new features, might see a minor price bump. The current Kwid is priced in the range of Rs 2.66 lakh - 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
