Honda Cars India has launched the updated 2018 Jazz in India today. The third-gen Honda Jazz was launched in the country in mid-2015 and this is the first update the hatchback has received in over three years. Unlike the global version, the India-spec Jazz has not received any styling updates. But Honda has updated its features list and it’s now available in fewer variants than before.

Honda has discontinued the base-spec E variant of the outgoing model altogether. Only the Jazz diesel is available with the S variant, which is now the base variant. The petrol is only available with the V and the top-spec VX variants.

Sadly, Honda has also discontinued the classic Magic seats of the Jazz. The updated version, however, gets several new features such as push-button start/stop, new 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and cruise control. In terms of safety features, it continues to offer dual front airbags along with ABS with EBD as standard. Speed-sensing auto door lock and rear parking sensors are also a part of the standard equipment now.

The 2018 Honda Jazz has also received a new front centre armrest (borrowed from the WR-V) and updated LED tail lamps, which now extend all the way up to the rear windscreen, much like we see in some of the Volvo cars. Honda has also added two new exterior colour options for the 2018 Jazz that were introduced on the Amaze as well: Radiant Red and Lunar Silver. Carnelian Red and Alabaster Silver colours are now discontinued.

Mechanically, the Jazz remains unaltered and comes with the option of a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol (90PS/110Nm) and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel (100PS/200Nm) engine. While the petrol can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-step CVT (with paddle shifters in the VX variant), the diesel comes coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In the premium hatchback space, the Honda Jazz competes with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Rs 5.35 lakh - 8.49 lakh), Volkswagen Polo (Rs 5.53 lakh - 9.33 lakh) and Hyundai Elite i20 (Rs  5.40 lakh - Rs 9.21) (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi)
