Festive Fever 2023: Things To Do For Pre-Festive Hair Care Routine

A good hair care routine doesn't only involve cleaning the hair with a premium shampoo, but the delicate strands require a bit more attention.

While preparing for Indian festivities, one thing people often overlook is taking care of their hair. It is essential for one's overall appearance that their hair appears well-groomed. This can only happen by following a proper hair care routine a couple of weeks in advance. Contrary to what many believe, a good hair care routine doesn't only involve cleaning the hair with a premium shampoo. While cleaning is an essential step, the delicate strands require a bit more attention and nourishment for that flawless look.

Mr. Yash Jaipuria, who is the Chief Executive of Ginni Filaments Ltd. listed what an ideal hair care routine should comprise of:

  • Hair oil: Massaging the scalp with warm oil can unclog the hair follicles, promote hair growth and replenish moisture in the hair. It strengthens the roots and protects them from heat damage. Moreover, it adds lustre and shine to the hair. Those with frizzy and dull hair must oil their scalp every time 30 minutes before shampooing.
  • Shampoo: Cleanse your scalp with a mild shampoo to remove the dirt, oil and dead skin from the scalp. A healthy scalp promotes hair growth and reduces hair fall. It is best to use a mild shampoo to avoid fizziness and maintain the natural moisture balance of the hair. Cleaning the hair 2 times a week is excellent to keep the scalp healthy.
  • Conditioner: Skipping conditioner is never a good idea. Conditioner plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and appearance of the hair. They protect the hair from damage and fizziness. Additionally, conditioning helps to retain the moisture in the hair and helps it look smooth and shiny.
  • Hair serum: After rinsing the conditioner, apply hair serum to control fizziness and add shine. Just a few drops of good hair serum enriched with almond or agran oil can make a huge difference. It will make the hair more manageable and easier to style.
  • Shampoo towels: There are days when people may not have the time to follow their entire hair care routine. In such cases, shampoo towels serve as excellent alternatives. Easily available in the market, these wet towels help remove dirt and oil from the hair, resulting in a fresh and nourished look.

Customizing Your Hair Care Routine: Tips For Different Hair Types

Aditya Mantoo, who is the Founder and CEO of Wildly Pure said, "Hair is a distinctive attribute, and its maintenance is not a one-size-fits-all endeavour. Just like our skin, our hair varies, and recognizing your specific hair type is crucial for nurturing a vibrant and healthy mane. Tailoring your hair care regimen to suit your particular hair type is essential for achieving optimal results. In this article, we will delve into suggestions and advice for various hair types to help you attain the glossy locks you desire.

  • Straight Hair: Straight hair possesses a sleek quality and tends to get oily at the roots. Utilize a clarifying shampoo to combat root oiliness. Focus conditioning solely on the ends to prevent hair from becoming heavy. Regular trims can help maintain a polished appearance.
  • Wavy Hair: Wavy hair strikes a balance between straight and curly, often boasting natural volume. Opt for a sulfate-free shampoo to preserve the natural texture of waves. Enhance your waves by using a curl-defining product, and either air-dry or employ a diffuser to prevent frizz.
  • Curly Hair: Curly hair is susceptible to dryness and frizz and requires extra moisture. Employ a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to combat dryness. Use a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair moisturised. Instead of frequent shampooing, consider co-washing (using conditioner only) in between washes.
  • Coily Hair: Coily hair features tight curls, often with a zigzag pattern, and tends to be naturally dry. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Regular deep conditioning is essential to retain moisture. Additionally, contemplate protective hairstyles to prevent breakage.
  • Fine Hair: Fine hair tends to lack volume and can be easily weighed down. Opt for a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Avoid heavy products and choose lightweight, volumizing mousse. For added volume, blow-dry using a round brush.
  • Thick Hair: Thick hair is dense and can be challenging to manage. Employ a smoothing shampoo and conditioner to tame frizz. Apply a hair serum to control flyaways. Thin or layer your hair for easier styling.
  • Colour-Treated Hair: Color-treated hair is prone to fading and dryness. Use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner. Minimize heat styling to prevent color damage, and consider using a color-protecting hair mask regularly.
  • Natural Hair: Natural hair remains unaltered by chemicals or heat, requiring specific care. Utilize sulfate-free, hydrating products to maintain moisture. To prevent breakage, either finger-detangle or use a wide-tooth comb. Style your hair with care to minimize stress on the strands.

Pre-Festive Hair Care Routine Through Clinical Cosmetology

Dr. Ajay Rana who is an internationally renowned Dermatologist, Surgeon & Aesthetic Physician, and the Founder and Director of ILAMED & Dermalyn Aesthetics said, "Clinical cosmetology offers a comprehensive approach to pre-festive hair care that goes beyond the usual home remedies."

Here are some essential things to do for a pre-festive hair care routine through clinical cosmetology:

  • Scalp Analysis: Begin with a thorough scalp analysis by a certified cosmetologist. This step helps identify any underlying issues like dandruff, dryness, or excess oil production.
  • Customized Treatments: Based on the scalp analysis, your cosmetologist will recommend customized treatments, which may include laser therapy, mesotherapy, or high-frequency treatments to address specific concerns.
  • Hydration Therapy: Hydration is key to healthy hair. Clinical cosmetology offers deep conditioning treatments that infuse moisture into the hair shaft, leaving it soft and manageable.
  • Hair Restoration: If you're dealing with hair loss or thinning, clinical cosmetology can provide non-surgical hair restoration solutions such as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy or low-level laser therapy.
  • Trichological Products: Your cosmetologist may recommend specialized trichological products tailored to your hair type and concerns. These products can help maintain the results of clinical treatments.
  • Scalp Massages: Regular scalp massages stimulate blood circulation and promote healthy hair growth. A cosmetologist can perform these massages to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Professional Styling: As part of your pre-festive routine, consider professional hair styling services that are gentle on your hair, such as blowouts and updos. These services can make your hair look flawless for the occasion.
  • Diet and Nutrition: Clinical cosmetology acknowledges the link between diet and hair health. Consult with your cosmetologist about a balanced diet and nutritional supplements that can benefit your hair.
  • Avoid Harsh Styling: Minimize the use of heated styling tools and harsh hair products in the weeks leading up to the festivities to prevent damage.
  • Regular Follow-ups: To maintain the results of your pre-festive hair care routine, schedule regular follow-up appointments with your cosmetologist to ensure your hair stays in its best condition.
