Union Budget 2025: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's saree choices during the budget presentation highlights India's diverse handloom traditions. Each year, she selects a different handwoven saree, showcasing the craftmanship of Indian weavers. Her choice of attire reflects the country's rich textile traditions and cultural legacy.
For her budget presentation today, Sitharaman arrived at the Parliament complex wearing a white silk saree with golden border and madhubani artwork on it, pairing it with red blouse, golden chain, a bindi, and earring. She carried the 'bahi-khata' a tablet wrapped in a red cloth embossed with the national emblem.

A Look At Her Saree Choices For Budget Over The Years:
In her previous budget session 2024, she chose a white and magenta silk saree, featuring golden motifs on the magenta border.

During the interim budget session of the Modi government's second term, she opted a blue tussar silk handloom saree. This silk is known for its coarse texture and golden sheen.

In 2023, Sitharaman wore a red temple border saree with a black border and intricate golden work. Temple sarees are often made of cotton or silk which are traditionally worn for special occasions.

For the 2022 budget session, she chose a rusty brown Bomkai saree from Odisha that features off-white border. Bomkai sarees are distingished by their simple yet elegant patterns. She complemented the look with a small bindi and earrings.
During the 2021 budget, Sitharaman wore a red and off-white Pochampally saree from Telangana. Known for its geometric ikat patterns, the Pochampally saree is a significant part of India's handloom tradition.
In year 2020, she worn a yellow-gold silk saree with a blue border, symbolising hope and economic growth during the pandamic. Fer her first bdget presentation in year 2019, she opted for a pink Mangalgiri saree with golden border, marking the introduction of the 'bahi-khata' instead of the traitional briefcase.
