3 Easy Sabudana Recipes For Mahashivratri To Break Your Fast With

On the day of Mahashivratri, devotees would fast in addition to honouring Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Here are some sabudana recipes that you can try on this day.

New Delhi: Mahashivratri festival will be held on February 18, 2023, according to the Hindu Calendar. On this day, devotees would fast in addition to honouring Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. In such a case, it is critical to understand what should be eaten throughout the fast and healthy and nutritious food items to break your fast with. So, while preparing the food, one needs to keep in mind that you should consume food that both fills the stomach and maintains the body's energy level.

Since Sabudana is something that can be consumed during fasts, and they are highly nutritious as well, here are some sabudana recipes that you can try during Mahashivratri:

1. Sabudana Khichdi:

Ingredients:

  • Sabudana- 1 cup (soaked)
  • Boiled Potatoes 
  • Finely chopped green chilli 
  • Peanuts- 1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves
  • Cumin- 1 tsp 
  • Chilli powder
  • Rock salt 
  • Refined oil

Preparation:

  • Soak the sabudana in water for at least 1 to 2 hours. 
  • After this, cut the boiled potatoes into small pieces. 
  • After that heat the pan and add peanuts to it. Roast the peanuts without using oil.
  • When it gets lightly roasted, take it out on a plate and lightly crush them.
  • Now heat the pan on low flame, and add about two spoons of refined oil to it.
  • When the oil heats up, add half a teaspoon of cumin seeds and boiled chopped potatoes.
  • Now add chopped green chillies, red chilli powder and rock salt to it and stir it well. 
  • When the potatoes turn light brown, add the crushed peanuts and coriander leaves to it and stir. 
  • After that add the sabudana in it and keep stirring continuously on a low flame.
  • Switch off the gas after about two minutes.
  • Sabudana Khichdi is ready to be served.

2. Sabudana Paratha:

Ingredients:

  • Sabudana- 1/2 cup
  • Boiled potato
  • Roasted peanuts- 1 tbsp (coarsely crushed)
  • Tomato- 2 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Green Chilli- 1 (finely chopped)
  • Coriander leaves- 1 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Roasted jeera (cumin seeds)- 1/2 tsp
  • Rock Salt
  • Pepper- 1 tsp
  • Ghee

Preparation:

  • Soak the sabudana in water for at least 1 to 2 hours. 
  • Once it is soaked well, then drain the water and pour it is a large bowl and let it dry. 
  • Now, add the boiled potato, peanuts, tomato, chilli, coriander, jeera, salt and pepper and mash all the ingredients together and make sure the dough is not sticky
  • Make small balls and pat them well giving them a flat roti-like shape. 
  • Now, place a tawa on medium flame and add some ghee to it.
  • Gently place the paratha on it and let it roast well.
  • Once one side gets a brownish colour, flip it over.
  • The parathas are ready to be served.

3. Sabudana Kheer:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Cup sabudana
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp dry fruits (mixed)

Preparation:

  • Soak the sabudana in water for 30 minutes.
  • Mix in the milk, sugar, and cardamom powder.
  • Mix thoroughly until the milk thickens.
  • Bring it to a boil.
  • Serve after garnishing with dried fruits.
