A tragic incident was reported in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday, where three members of a family died after falling from a high cliff at the Khawadya hills in the Tisgaon area.

The deceased have been identified as Kunal Chandgude, 19, his father Murlidhar Chandgude, 48, and his mother Sangeeta Chandgude, 42. According to the report, Kunal had reached the hill with the intention of taking his own life.

His father tried to pull him back from the cliff, but both fell down the hill and died. After witnessing the deaths of her husband and son, Sangeeta also jumped from the hill, resulting in her death.

The reason why Kunal went to the hill intending to take his own life remains unclear. Police are investigating the incident.

Three-Hour Rescue Effort Fails

For nearly three hours, villagers, tourists and the teenager’s parents tried to persuade him to move away from the edge. Despite repeated appeals to think about his future and his parents, he remained determined to take his own life, NDTV reported.

The teenager’s father, who had initially been pleading with him from below, climbed up the hill during the final 15–20 minutes in an attempt to bring him back to safety.

As the 18-year-old continued to stand near the edge, his father tried to grab him at around 1 pm. However, the two lost their balance and fell from the hill.

Moments later, the panic-stricken mother also fell from the hill.

Police officials present at the spot also attempted to persuade the teenager to step away from the edge, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Eyewitness Recalls Family's Plea

Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav said the parents and others made repeated attempts to convince the teenager not to take the extreme step.

“The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn't listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there,” Jadhav said.

“The mother kept pleading with him not to jump,” he added.
