Vaccinated Mother Gives Birth To First Known Baby With Antibodies Against Coronavirus

A doctor, who was given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine during her pregnancy, has given birth to a baby with antibodies against the novel coronavirus. Dr Shrestha described that she had received double dose of Pfizer-mRNA vaccine earlier this year in the month of February at the time when she was in her last trimester.

At the time when country reels under the second wave of Covid-19, vaccination appears to be one of the best ways to minimise the risk of contracting the deadly virus. While there are reports claiming that recent strain of virus is affecting kids of all ages, a doctor, who was given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine during her pregnancy, has given birth to a baby with antibodies against the novel coronavirus.

Dr Prerna Shrestha took to her Twitter handle to share the news of giving birth to a baby with antibodies. In a tweet posted on April 23, Prerana said, "In other news, I found out yesterday that my newborn has antibodies for the COVID spike protein because I got vaccinated during my pregnancy. Science ROCKS!"

In a following tweet, Dr Shrestha described that she had received double dose of Pfizer-mRNA vaccine earlier this year in the month of February at the time when she was in her last trimester.

Since the doctor shared the news, the development was seen no less than a miracle for the world which is fighting long-going battle against novel Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, India is all set to roll out the extended vaccination drive across the country from May 1. All citizens above 18 years of age will be eligible to take vaccine. The registration to book slot for the vaccination starts on Wednesday, April 28 via government's official website - CoWin.
