New Delhi: As India continues to reel under the lethal second wave of Coronavirus, the government is all set to roll out the extended vaccination drive across the country from May 1, for which the registration on the Co-Win app will start on April 28.

However, the young generation might have to wait for a while as several states have claimed that the Serum Institute of India (SII) has promised them to supply Covishield vaccines only after May 15.

It is also to be noted that the Centre has directed state governments that they can vaccinate the 18-44 age group only out of the quota that the states have procured themselves and not out of stock of vaccines provided by the Centre.

A letter sent to states on April 26 clearly states that the central quota, which is 50 percent of the manufactured vaccines that are further allocated to the states, must only be used for continuing inoculation of those above 45 years and frontline workers.

The government has also made pre-registration on COWIN App mandatory for an appointment for the 18-44 age group and said that walk-in vaccination will not be allowed for now.
