Health Minister Mandaviya Discusses Global Health Issues With World Delegates

Mandaviya added that the discussions covered India’s increasing role in addressing various global health issues and emergence as the pharmacy of the world.

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday said that he had very productive bilateral meetings with the senior delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO), Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) and Global Fund.

Mandaviya added that the discussions covered India’s increasing role in addressing various global health issues and emergence as the pharmacy of the world.

Had very productive bilateral meetings with the senior delegates from @WHO, @PMNCH and @GlobalFund.Our discussions covered India's increasing role in addressing various global health issues and emergence as the Pharmacy of the World,” he tweeted.

“Met Health Minister of Angola, Ms Silvia Lutucuta at Evian France. Discussed various issues of bilateral importance in the Health sector. Also shared insights on the successful implementation of the Janaushadhi scheme & manufacturing strength of India's Pharmaceutical industry,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

Earlier this week, Mandaviya had allayed concerns regarding an increase in prices of medicines.

Asserting the government has not effected any hike, he said only a few essential drugs that are linked to the wholesale price index and are as such priced very low may see some automatic rise or fall as per inflation trends.

“There are some essential medicines linked to WPI that can see rise or fall automatically as per the WPI movement. These are drugs that are priced a few rupees and therefore, a 10 per cent WPI increase may lead to the price rising by a few paise,” Mandaviya said earlier on Monday, PTI reported.
