New Delhi: India recorded a huge surge in fatalities in the last 24 hours as Assam reconciled 1,347 deaths and Kerala 47 due to the infection, the data released by the Health Ministry stated. This has taken the country's overall death toll to 5,23,622.

India has also recorded a single-day rise of 2,483 new COVID-19 infections taking the country's tally of cases to 4,30,62,569.

With the addition of fresh infections, India's active cases now stand at 15,636 while the daily positivity rate has dipped to 0.55 per cent.

India also recorded 1,970 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,25,23,311.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra on Monday reported 84 COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 78,76,925, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,834 with no fresh fatality, according to a PTI report.

The addition to the day's tally was far less than the 144 cases logged on Sunday while four of eight circles in the state, namely Akola, Latur, Nashik and Aurangabad did not report a single case.

Of the 84 cases reported during the day, a dominant 56 were from Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR), including 45 from the metropolis, followed by 23 from Pune, four from Nagpur and one from Kolhapur.

So far, 77,28,162 people have been discharged post the COVID-19 recovery, including 71 in the last 24 hours, leaving Maharashtra with 929 active cases.

Delhi

Delhi reported 1,011 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Monday, while the positivity rate increased to 6.42 per cent, as per the health department, news agency PTI reported.

According to the data, the number of infections in the national capital has risen to 18,75,887, with a death toll of 26,170.

The previous day, 15,642 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city, according to the report.
