New Delhi: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a list of 301 feature films eligible for Oscar, including SS Rajamouli's 'RRR', Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files', and Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara'. Pan Nalin's 'Chhello Show' (Last Film Show), which is India's official Oscar entry, is also on the list, as are Marathi films 'Me Vasantrao', 'Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi', R Madhavan's 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Iravin Nizhal', and Kannada film 'Vikrant Rona'. Shaunak Sen's documentary 'All That Breathes' and Kartiki Gonsalves' 'The Elephant Whisperers' are also on the list.

But, before we start celebrating, it's important for us to know the differences between the Oscar Reminder List, Short List and Nomination.

Oscar 2023: Reminder List

The Oscars reminder list comprises films that are eligible to compete in a variety of categories. However, simply being on the list does not guarantee that a film will be nominated for an Academy Award, which will be revealed on January 24. SS Rajamouli's RRR, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files, and Rishab Shetty's Kantara are among the Indian films on the Oscars 2023 reminder list. 

Oscar 2023: Shortlist

The films on the Oscars shortlist move on to the next round of voting. Except for Best Picture, which includes ten nominees, the shortlist will be narrowed to five films per category on the day of the formal nominations. 

In the shortlist for 10 categories which AMPAS unveiled in December, 'Chhello Show' made it to the best international film segment, while 'Naatu Naatu' from the blockbuster 'RRR' found a place in the music (original song) category. 'All That Breathes' was included in the documentary feature shortlist and 'The Elephant Whisperers' in the documentary short category, according to a report by PTI.

Oscar 2023: Nomination

The Oscar nominations for 2023 will be announced in January. Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences vote on Oscar nominations. After the nominations voting is completed, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) counts all votes before making an official pronouncement. The submissions that have been nominated compete for the prestigious award.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' rules and regulations, nominations voting will begin on January 12, 2023 (Thursday) and end on January 17, 2023 (Tuesday). The 95th Academy Awards nominations will be revealed on January 24, 2023 (Tuesday).
