Rajinikanth Clarifies Daughter Aishwarya's 'Sanghi' Remark About Him: 'Never Said Sanghi Was A Bad Word'

As he prepares for the release of his next movie, 'Lal Salaam', Rajinikanth has spoken up for his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, who took issue with her father being referred to as "Sanghi."

New Delhi: As he prepares for the release of his next movie,'Lal Salaam', Tamil megastar Rajinikanth has spoken up for his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, who took issue with her father being referred to as "Sanghi."

The superstar clarified that his daughter did not interpret the term "Sanghi" incorrectly. He asserted that Aishwarya never used the term "sanghi" negatively.

Speaking with reporters outside the Chennai airport on Monday, Rajinikanth defended Aishwarya's remark, asserting that she never used the term "Sanghi" in an offensive manner.

The actor told the media: “My daughter never said that Sanghi [the term] was a bad word. She questioned why her father was being branded that way when he is into spirituality.”

Earlier, speaking at the audio launch of 'Lal Salaam' in Chennai, Aishwarya had said: "I generally stay away from social media, but my team often tells me what's happening and keep showing some posts. I used to get angry seeing them. We're human beings too. In recent times, many people call my father a Sanghi.”

She further mentioned: “I didn't know what it meant. I then asked someone what the meaning of Sanghi was, and they said that people who support a particular political party are called Sanghi. I'd like to make it clear here, Rajinikanth is not a Sanghi. If he was, he wouldn't have done a film like 'Lal Salaam'.”

Rajinikanth, who was last seen in the blockbuster film ‘Jailer’, will have an extended cameo in ‘Lal Salaam’.
Rajinikanth's character, Moideen Bhai, will make a lengthy appearance in the film Lal Salaam. Cricket is the setting against which Lal Salaam is situated.

In key characters roles, Vikrant and Vishnu Vishal will be seen. After a seven-year hiatus, Aishwarya returns to direction with Lal Salaam. Aishwarya last directed the Tamil action-thriller Vai Raja Vai, in which her ex-husband Dhanush had a cameo appearance.
