PM Modi Invites Global Creators To ‘Make India Their Playground’ At WAVES Summit 2025

At the inaugural session of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address, inviting global content creators to explore India's rich cultural landscape and “make India their playground.”
Speaking at the Jio World Convention Centre on Thursday, PM Modi urged creators to “dream big and tell their stories,” highlighting India’s growing global appeal as a storytelling powerhouse.
PM Modi inaugurates WAVES Summit
Prime Minister Modi described the WAVES Summit as a transformative platform that brings together creators, storytellers, innovators, and policymakers from over 100 countries.
“Today, artists, innovators, investors and policymakers from more than 100 nations have gathered under one roof. We are laying the foundation for a global ecosystem of talent and creativity. WAVES is such a global platform that belongs to every artist and creator,” he said.
Extending warm greetings on statehood days, he added, “Today is Maharashtra formation day. My wishes to all the Marathi brothers and sisters," speaking in Marathi before switching to Gujarati to convey similar wishes to the people of Gujarat.
PM Modi on the Padma Awards and Indian cinema
The Prime Minister noted a significant change in the way national awards are viewed under his government. “Under our government, the prestigious Padma awards have transformed into the ‘People's Padma,’ honouring individuals working selflessly for society and the nation,” he said.
Modi added, “The image of the Padma Awards has changed under our government, and people accepted this change with open arms.”
Reflecting on the international influence of Indian cinema, he praised its role in shaping the country’s image worldwide.
“In the last century, Indian cinema has been successful in making India popular in every part of the world. This is evident from Raj Kapoor's popularity in Russia, Satyajit Ray's popularity at Cannes, and RRR's success at the Oscars,” Modi stated.
PM Modi on the ‘Orange Economy’
Shifting focus to the economic potential of the creative industries, the Prime Minister called the present moment the “sunrise era” of India’s content-driven economy. “We are witnessing the growth era of the Orange economy. The three pillars of the Orange economy are content, creativity and culture,” he said, adding that India is now primed to “create in India and create for the world.”
