Maanvi Gagroo Says She Is Completely 'Opposite' Of Her 'Half Love Half Arranged' Character In Real Life

Maanvi Gagroo, whose recent series 'Half Love Half Arranged', released on Amazon Mini TV, talked candidly about her character Riya Tanwar and a lot more, in an exclusive interview with ABP Live.

New Delhi: Actor Maanvi Gagroo, whose recent series 'Half Love Half Arranged', released on Amazon Mini TV, talked candidly about her character Riya Tanwar, her co-stars, her idea of love and a lot more, in an exclusive interview with ABP Live. Maanvi, who began her career with the 2007 Disney Channel's television show 'Dhoom Machao Dhoom', has starred in a number of popular films and web-series including Four More Shots Please, TVF Triplings, PK, No One Killed Jessica, and more.

Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

Tell us a little about your character Riya Tanwar in 'Half Love Half Arranged.'

Talking about her character Riya Tanwar in the series, Maanvi said, "Ria's a doctor by profession, she's a gynecologist and she's always had a very like tight kind of a personality like she's very organized, very planned. Everything is according to her, life, goals and she has like this flow chart for her entire life planned out already that you know she'll have finished college by this age, she'll do a master's by this age, internships and marriage then kids and you know all of that so her marriage thing was set for age 30."

"She has been dating this one guy for like two three years and she's expecting a proposal from him and on the date that she's expecting the proposal, he kind of breaks up with her, he dumps her and that's where our story begins really. They have a bad breakup where he's like, you won't be able to marry anyone and she's like, I'll marry before the phase and all of that. And then this is how it progresses. So, you know, it's her search for a groom. And like, obviously that's not how she had planned because she wanted a love marriage and all, but she's like, it's okay. I'll deal with it."

How was it working with your co-stars? Any memorable or funny incident/moment that you would like to share with us.

Maanvi had a great time working with her co-stars, with their constant conversations revolving around food. The actress shared, "I remember like Grusha ma'am who plays my bua, she is incredible. She is damn funny even in real life and she would keep improvising her lines and stuff. So there were lots of times where I would suddenly start laughing in a scene and I would ask them to either do another take or request to not, you know something like, can you give me 10 minutes, I can't stop laughing. And then there were times that the director, Simar, he would actually tell me that okay, you know what, just laugh in the scene, it's okay. Like it's fine,  you can as Rhea also laugh in the scene and I was like okay, thank God. So then that's how the scene would get done."

"And then Karan and I had a great time. We were constantly talking about food and both of us were like on a diet and feeling guilty talking about food. But at the same time, we were like, you know, we've come to Delhi, we can't not eat. So yeah, they were all, and in fact invariably,  like the joke on the set was that invariably, no matter what conversation people are having on set, invariably it revolves around food. So we were like we're in Delhi, it's allowed."

Is Maanvi like her character Riya in real life? Having everything planned beforehand.

"Not at all. Not at all. I'm in fact quite the opposite. My elder sister, she's like this. In fact, I drew a lot of inspiration for Rhea from my sister. And like in fact,  I'm more like the younger sibling where I'm just like, I don't care and you know, go with the flow. And not that I don't care, but I like to keep it spontaneous. And of course,  you plan, you make plans, but not like the way Rhea does.  Like even if you plan something and it changes, it's fine. Like you're not too attached to the plan like that."

What is your take on falling in love?

"I think it's more of a feeling. Like, there are times when you know, you're spending time with someone and suddenly you feel like, dude, you just think about it and you're like, wow, I want to spend more time with you. I want to spend more time with this person.  And that's because they probably make you feel good about yourself. You feel loved, you feel safe, you have a good time, you laugh, you know, you discuss things. So for me, that is love. Like when I want to spend more time with the person, even in like friendships, right? Like not all your friends are your best friends. Your best friends are people you want to spend more time with. And someone I think you can completely be yourself with."

How did you manage to keep your relationship with Varun, a secret for so long? How is life after marriage?

"We never made it public. Because we were like, we'll make it public when we have to. I am super, super suspicious. So I was like, I don't want people thinking it or you know, this and that. Anyway, we were like, okay, so when we get married or whatever, people will anyway know. So it's okay."

"Touchwood nothing has changed for us after marriage. It's all the same and it's all very nice."

From 'Dhoom Machao Dhoom' to 'Half Love Half Arranged', how has the journey been?

"I had just passed out of school at that time. And I remember that everybody in my college used to be like, what will happen in next episode? And I was like, we had shot it long back, so we were like, I don't know, you guys have to watch. And we also didn't know how to handle it."

"The journey has been great. Can't complain. But it's been a journey, like how you said. Because after Dhoom Machao Dhoom, I was still studying. So I didn't have plans to move to Bombay or anything. Then after that, I did a film. The film didn't do well, but the reviews had all said nice things about me. So I thought, okay, maybe. So once college ended, it was time to decide do I want to do my master's or do I want to get a job or what? And I was on my way to doing my master's and stuff. But then I thought, okay, maybe I should go to Bombay and try this out. Because this is something which came out of nowhere. So I should respect the universe's want or whatever. And then took the plans, moved to Bombay. And yeah, it's been going on since then."
