Harman Baweja Feels Media Was 'Unfair' To Him When He Started His Career: 'It Hurts When It Gets Too Personal'

Actor Harman Baweja, who made his comeback with the much-acclaimed Netflix series ‘Scoop,’ has been receiving appreciation from all quarters for his role in the Hansal Mehta directorial.

New Delhi: Actor Harman Baweja, who made his comeback with the much-acclaimed Netflix series ‘Scoop,’ has been receiving appreciation from all quarters for his role in the Hansal Mehta directorial. Harman started his acting career with the 2008 film Love Story 2050 opposite Priyanka Chopra, but he quit the industry after the failure of his 2014 film Dishkiyaoon.  The actor recently opened up about how the media ‘attacked’ him in his first innings and said that he felt ‘disheartened’.

In a conversation with Mid-Day, the actor recalled the times when he made sure that his mother did not get to read all the bad things which were being written about him.

“I feel that the media was absolutely unfair to me. When I had done my first few films, a barrage of harsh and mean things were written [about me]. It’s part and parcel of the business, but it hurts when it gets too personal. There were times when I’d make sure that the papers didn’t come home, or that my mom didn’t see them. I quit because effectively, things didn’t pan out the way they initially [appeared]. Today, the same family who avoided reading papers is now looking forward to the next article on me,” he told Mid-Day.

He also spoke about his comeback and how he decided to take up the role of JCP Shroff in the series. “I’ve been writing and producing films. Hansal and I were collaborating on another project, when he said that he would like me to play JCP Shroff in Scoop. I told him I hadn’t acted in years, but he told me to trust him. I then suggested that they take my audition,” the actor was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

A six-episode series, Scoop is inspired by real events and Jigna Vora's memoir 'Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.

Harman’s production house, Baweja Studios, is producing the Hindi adaptation of the critically acclaimed Malayalam film, 'The Great Indian Kitchen' with Sanya Malhotra.
