‘Chhapaak’ Box Office Collection Day 1: Deepika Padukone's Film Starts On A Positive Note
‘Chhapaak’, which is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, opened on a good note at the box office.
New Delhi: Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chhapaak’, which hit the silver screes on January 10, has started on a positive note at the box office. The much-awaited film has managed to receive good reviews from the critics and fans. The Meghna Gulzar directorial collected Rs 4.77 crore on its opening day at the box office.
Bollywood critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first day box office collection of ‘Chhapaak’ on Twitter. He mentined that the growth on day two and three is crucial for the film to post a decent first weekend total.

'Chhapaak' is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The film co-starring Vikrant Massey narrated the story of an acid attack survivor Matli (played by Malti) and her journey. The film has been embroiled in two major controversies since the past few days. Deepika Padukone's JNU visit created a lot of buzz on social media and a certain section trended the hashtag #BoycottChhapaak on Twitter. Several Bollywood celebs and fans lauded DP for expressing solidarity with the students, who were attacked by a mob at the JNU campus. The Delhi High Court has restrained from releasing 'Chhapaak' without due credits to Aparn Bhat, the lawyer who represented the acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, in her legal battle. Meanwhile, 'Chhapaak' has been declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. MP government has also announced that it will honour Padukone at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2020. 'Chhapaak' faced stiff competition from Ajay Devgn's 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior', which minted Rs 15.10 crore on the opening day. Both the films released on January 10.
