‘Exciting Risk’: Actor Prithviraj Writes Why He Made Bro Daddy, Thanks Mohanlal
Actor Prithviraj’s second directorial venture, Malayalam film Bro Daddy that has just released on Disney+ Hotstar, is a light-hearted take on late pregnancy.
New Delhi: After a serious ‘Lucifer’, actor Prithviraj has just delivered a light-hearted take on late pregnancy in his second directorial venture, once again with superstar Mohanlal.
The Malayalam entertainer 'Bro Daddy', which released on Disney+ Hotstar Wednesday, has Mohanlal and Prithviraj in the lead, playing father and son who are going to become a father at the same time.
Taking to Instagram, Prithviraj said 'Bro Daddy' was totally different from 'Lucifer', and that was why he wanted to direct it.
"In more ways than one, I'm an accidental director. Although I've always wanted to make my own films, my debut directorial happened because Murali Gopy thought I should helm 'Lucifer'. He believed in me before anyone else,” he posted.
"Much the same way, Sreejith and Bibin came to me with the script of 'Bro Daddy' through our mutual friend Vivek Ramadevan. I'm still not sure why they thought I'd be the right person to come to for this project, but I'm glad they did! As a film, 'Bro Daddy' is as different as anything can be from 'Lucifer' and that's what made me want to direct it. It needed me to rethink completely and attempt a language of film making that will be far far away from 'Lucifer' or 'Empuraan'."
The actor-director said it was a “very exciting risk to take”, and thanked Mohanlal for believing in him. “Like always, I thought it's a very exciting risk to take, and I did! I'll forever be grateful to Lalettan for believing in me like he did, and Anthony Perumbavoor for standing by me with complete conviction.”
Prithviraj also thanked his “spectacular” army of technicians, assistants and friends from his unit and said his films “won't be what they are today” if they were taken out of the equation.
The film 'Bro Daddy' is streaming on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar from January 26 onwards.
