“There’s a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, you know," Jaya explained. "I don’t know why, but you don’t feel the need to show the same level of respect to your parents. As a daughter, you take your parents for granted. But with your in-laws, you can’t do that.”

She also noted that the dynamics of the relationship could change over time, adding, “And later on, things change—because today, I feel more like a Bachchan than a Bhaduri.”

Jaya admitted to being a “very strict” parent to her children, Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan. However, when asked if she was equally strict with Aishwarya, she dismissed the idea, saying, “Strict? She’s not my daughter! She’s my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I’m sure her mother has taken care of that.”
