Nushrratt Bharuccha Faces Backlash For Asking Volunteer To Untie Her Shoes At Yoga Event

Nushrratt Bharuccha is facing backlash after a video showed her asking a volunteer to untie her shoelaces at the International Yoga Day event. Netizens call out the irony.

Bollywood actress Nushrratt Bharuccha found herself at the centre of social media backlash after a video from the 11th International Day of Yoga celebration in Mumbai went viral on Saturday. The clip shows the actor requesting an event volunteer to untie her shoelaces—a gesture that didn’t sit well with netizens, especially given the context of a yoga event promoting self-awareness and physical engagement.

Netizens criticise Nushrratt

Dressed in a pink top layered with a cream shrug and pants, Nushrratt attended the Yoga Day event with enthusiasm. A video circulating online shows her speaking with women volunteers ahead of the session. In the clip, she can be seen gesturing to a woman, seemingly requesting her to untie her shoelaces. As one shoe is being undone, Nushrratt shifts her position and points to the other shoe, asking for its lace to be untied as well.

While it’s unclear whether the actress intended it to be a casual moment or simply sought assistance due to event logistics, the internet was swift in reacting.

Social Media Reacts: 'Doesn’t She Have Hands?'

Criticism poured in on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) soon after the video surfaced. One user remarked, "Unbelievable khud k haath nahi hai kya (doesn't she have hands)?" Another comment questioned, "They can't even remove their own shoes." Others chimed in, questioning the contradiction between attending a yoga event and needing help to remove footwear.

"Why she has two people to remove her shoes... and she's going to do yoga????" wrote one, while another sarcastically commented, "Are you a child and need two people to take off your shoes, like seriously???"

The tone turned sharper with another user accusing the actress of letting “paisa aur fame sar chad gaya hai”, suggesting, “Madam ko yoga karni hai par shoes laces kay liye log chahiye. Madam yoga bhi unhi se karwa lo (She wants to do yoga but needs people to untie her shoe laces. Make them do the yoga too).”

Despite the online heat, Nushrratt participated in the yoga session and spoke positively about the practice. In a statement to news agency ANI, she said, “Yoga is very energising. If yoga becomes a part of your daily routine, it will be perfect for your mind, body, and soul.”

Work front

On the professional front, Nushrratt was last seen in 'Chhorii 2', directed by Vishal Furia. The psychological horror thriller, which premiered globally on April 11, also stars Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma. It was produced under the banners of T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Productions.
