Kay Kay Menon On Dance Scene In Honeymoon Travels: 'Farah Khan Thought I Was High'

Kay Kay Menon shares a hilarious behind-the-scenes memory from Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, revealing how Farah Khan thought he was drunk during the shoot of “Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari.”

Known for his powerful performances in intense roles, Kay Kay Menon rarely ventures into the realm of comedy. But in the 2007 ensemble film Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, the actor broke away from his usual image to play a geeky Bengali husband opposite Raima Sen, and gave audiences a refreshing surprise.

In a recent conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube podcast, Kay Kay opened up about one of the most memorable moments from the film, the energetic dance number “Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari.”

Kay Kay Menon to Farah Khan

Recalling the preparation for the song, Kay Kay revealed how he negotiated creative freedom with choreographer Farah Khan. “She came aboard the yacht where we were supposed to shoot the dance,” he said. “I reached early and told her, ‘Farah, please don’t give me those aerobic-style dance steps.’ She asked, ‘Then what are you going to do?’ I said, ‘Just let me flow with the character. Let my dance be part of the act.’ She agreed.”

The actor’s quirky and spontaneous moves made the performance stand out — but also led to some unexpected confusion on set.

“Are You Drunk?” Farah Khan’s Surprised Reaction

Kay Kay’s commitment to his character, who unknowingly gets high in the film, was so convincing that Farah Khan mistook it for real intoxication. “After a while, she stopped me and said, ‘Kay Kay, are you drunk?’ I said, ‘No yaar.’ She then said, ‘You had some drug?’ She genuinely thought I had taken something. I had to convince her I was just acting. What they don’t know is that I don’t drink at all,” he shared with a laugh.

The performance drew from director Reema Kagti’s detailed inputs as well. “She was an expert. She gave me a detailed idea. Once I understood it, my character just opened up,” he added.

Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, follows six couples on a quirky group honeymoon to Goa. With an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Abhay Deol, and Minissha Lamba, the film balanced humor and emotional depth, making it a cult favorite.

Kay Kay’s story is a reminder of his range as an actor and the kind of behind-the-scenes spontaneity that makes movie magic truly memorable.
