New Delhi: Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film, 'Amar Singh Chamkila', has been awaited by his fans for quite some time. Amar Singh Chamkila, the titular role has been portrayed by Diljit Dosanjh. At the young age of 27, Punjabi artist Amar Singh Chamkila met his demise. His songs continue to be well-known even after 35 years of his passing. According to the director, Chamkila's music differed greatly from that of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was also shot on May 29, 2022.

When the two singers' songs were compared, Imtiaz Ali stated in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, “The songs that I have heard of Sidhu Moosewala are very different in texture from Chamkila, but one thing is common that they were both extremely popular in the grassroots and they were very influential and they did talk about what was happening around them. So those were the common things.”

“Chamkila was a slave of his audience. He wanted to always please his audience. He could never refuse his audience. This is why he ended up doing more than 365 shows in one year and sometimes these shows were not happening at the same venue. He had to travel to different villages to do these.” Ali added.

Amar Singh Chamkila's wife Amarjot , who was also shot alongside the singer in 1988, is played by Parineeti Chopra in the movie.

Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh, both have collaborated with Imtiaz Ali for the first time. ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ has been in the making for quite some time now.

Diljit Dosanjh has portrayed the role of Amar Singh Chamkila in the recently released Punjabi film ‘Jodi’ for which he received several awards for his performance.

The film’s music by composer AR Rahman is already in the air and fans cannot stop praising it.
