Amid Animal Row, Kangana Ranuat's Old Interview On Problematic Characters Goes Viral

Kangana Ranaut shared her views on one of the episodes of Aamir Khan's popular TV show 'Satyamev Jayate'.

New Delhi: Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal' is not just in news for its box office numbers and Ranbir Kapoor's performance in the film. The film has been vehemently criticised for promoting toxic masculinity, problematic male characters and representation of women. Amid such negative reviews, an old video of Kangana Ranaut has become viral on social media.

Kangana Ranaut shared her views on one of the episodes of Aamir Khan's popular TV show 'Satyamev Jayate'.

About showing problematic characters, Kangana Ranaut told Aamir Khan, “I’m not saying there shouldn’t be dark cinema or that the reality shouldn’t be shown. But if it’s shown, showing its consequences is also important. How it affects the girl and her future and how it affects the boy as well. So, there cannot be a happy ending.”

Kangana emphasised that many such people start believing that action films are inspired by them. "Such boys start ragging others when they grow up. They not only harass girls but everyone, even their parents. They are antisocial people who are problematic for everyone. They feel that such characters in movies justify their behaviour. They’ll wear the same shirt as the character and convince themselves that they are right because films are being made about them. They think the heroes are inspired by them.”

Earlier, an old interview of Aamir Khan, speaking about the portrayal of violence on screen went viral on social media. In the video, Aamir Khan said how directors 'who aren't that talented' use violence as a tool to make their films successful.

Most recently, writer Swanand Kirkire also expressed his views on Animal's treatment of women.

However, despite the backlash, 'Animal' is having a great run at the box office. The film is soon eyeing the coveted Rs. 500 cr mark in the first week of release.
