Released in 1990, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial not only became a major box office hit but also established Deol as one of Bollywood’s most powerful performers. In a heartfelt post, the Gadar star reflected on how deeply personal the film remains for him, calling it more than just a role.

Sunny Deol Reflects on Playing Ajay Mehra In Ghayal

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Sunny posted a video montage of some of his most intense scenes and dialogues from the film. Alongside the clip, he wrote: 35 Years of #Ghayal! Today marks 35 years since we first released Ghayal. It feels like yesterday when we brought Ajay Mehra’s story to life—his courage, his conviction, and the spirit of justice that still resonates with audiences. This film was more than just a role—it was a piece of my heart. It challenged me, inspired me, and showed the power of storytelling.”

Fans quickly flooded the comments section with love and nostalgic memories.

Ghayal: A Blockbuster That Stood the Test of Time

Ghayal was Rajkumar Santoshi’s directorial debut and was produced by Sunny’s father, veteran actor Dharmendra. The film starred Sunny Deol in the lead as Ajay Mehra, alongside Meenakshi Seshadri, Raj Babbar, and Amrish Puri. The ensemble cast also featured renowned actors like Moushumi Chatterjee, Annu Kapoor, Om Puri, Sharat Saxena, and Sudesh Berry.

The film struck gold at the box office, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 1990 and earning its place as one of the year’s standout hits.

What’s Next for Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol is now gearing up to return to the big screen with Border 2. Directed by Anurag Singh, the upcoming war drama also stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is slated for a Republic Day weekend release on January 23, 2026.
