West Bengal Lok Sabha 2024: Can Mamata Halt BJP Juggernaut? Know Seats, Phases, Complete Schedule
West Bengal Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Know key details like election schedule, phases, and constituency-wise candidates fielded by the TMC, the BJP, and the Congress-led I.N.D.IA.
West Bengal, one of the pivotal states during the Lok Sabha Elections, has witnessed fierce electoral battles in recent years even as voters in this eastern state tend to favour candidates from local parties over those of national stature. The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections emerged as a pivotal moment in the electoral landscape as despite the Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, emerging as the largest party with 18 seats, they witnessed a significant decline of 12 seats from the 2014 elections. Conversely, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party at the centre, made a remarkable leap, securing 18 seats compared to just two in 2014.
The upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal are poised to be hotly contested, with shifting alliance dynamics and opposition strategies as despite being part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, the TMC has opted to contest the elections solo, fielding candidates on all 42 seats.

West Bengal Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Constituencies
West Bengal ranks third in terms of the number of Lok Sabha seats, with a total of 42 seats. This state stands out as each constituency typically reflects diverse issues rather than a singular common agenda. Out of the 42 seats, 30 are unreserved, while 10 are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and two for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
West Bengal Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Candidates List
In the wake of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's dominance in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, several parties including the Indian National Congress (INC), TMC, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Samajwadi Party (SP) united under the banner of the I.N.D.I.A bloc. However, despite being part of this alliance, the TMC, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, has opted to go solo in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, contesting all 42 seats. This decision sets the stage for a three-way contest between the NDA, I.N.D.I.A, and TMC in West Bengal.
