Rajasthan Election: Congress Reveals Candidate For Udaipur Against BJP's Tarachand Jain In 4th List

Against BJP's Tarachand Jain, Congress has fielded Gourav Vallabh to run for the Udaipur constituency.

The Congress on Tuesday released the fourth list of 56 candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections, taking to 151 the total number of candidates declared by the party so far. Against BJP's Tarachand Jain, Congress has fielded Gourav Vallabh to run for the Udaipur constituency. Gourav Vallabh, a well-known economist and All India Congress Committee member, has been selected to represent the Udaipur seat. He is well-known for his economic acumen and work on the Congress party's economic agenda.

Manvendra Singh, the son of late BJP politician Jaswant Singh, is among the significant names on this list. Manvendra Singh, who recently moved parties from the BJP to the Congress, is slated to run from the Siwana seat. His move into the Congress is notable since he had been with the BJP for almost two decades and his father, Jaswant Singh, was a major leader in the party.

Earlier, on Sunday (October 22, 2023), the party unveiled its second list of 43 candidates for the November 25 Assembly elections. On Saturday, the initial list of 33 candidates was announced.

The 200-member Rajasthan assembly will be elected in a single phase on November 25, with results due on December 3.

In the third list, Speaker Rajendra Prateek was fieled from Sikar, Wajib Ali from Nagar, Shobharani Kushwah from Dholpur, Harish Chandra Meena from Deoli-Uniara, Lakhan Singh Meena from Karauli, and Heera Lal Darangi from Jhalod (ST).

Earlier this month, the party had unveiled its initial list of 33 candidates, which included Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot. Four members of Pilot's camp were on the initial list.

The incumbent Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, will run from Sardarpura, while his deputy, Sachin Pilot, has been nominated from Tonk. Indraj Singh Gurjar of Virat Nagar, Mukesh Bhakhar of Ladnun, and Ramniwas Gawariya of Parbatsar are among the leaders who joined Pilot in his revolt against Gehlot in 2020.

Rajasthan haso a trend of electing the BJP and the Congress alternatively since 1993. The Congress is, however, hoping to buck the trend and retain power, riding on the welfare schemes announced by the Gehlot government over the past five years, especially those related to LPG subsidies, inflation relief camps, employment schemes, scial security plan, etc.
