Priyanka Gandhi in Ayodhya: 'Modi-Modi' slogans raised as Congress leader visits Hanuman temple

Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday evening visited the Hanuman Garhi temple during her visit to Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday evening visited the Hanuman Garhi temple during her visit to Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. The newly joined Congress leader, however, did not visit the Ram Temple in the wake of Ram Janmbhoimi – Babri Masjid title suit and the matter being sub-judice in court. As she offered prayers, residents and sadhus gathered outside, so did a group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters who tried to show a black flag. They also chanted ‘Modi-Modi’ slogan, in response to which Congress supporters raised ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ slogans. Police had to use light force to disperse the mob. Priyanka’s visit to the temple marked the end of a 50-km road show from Kumar Ganj, during which she met supporters at several places. While addressing a rally yesterday, she also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring his own Varanasi Constituency and going on world tours instead. She also criticised PM Modi's remarks at a rally that Congress leaders made many in Pakistan happy. “Pakistan mein biryani khane ke liye to woh gaye thhe naa (it was he who went to Pakistan to eat their biryani),” she told reporters, in an apparent reference to the Prime Minister's Lahore visit in 2015. Priyanka Gandhi's visit to Ayodhya came on the last day of her three-day campaign in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, she travelled to the family bastions of Amethi and Raebareli. On the third day of her campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi held a mega road show in the temple town covering a distance of over 15 km as scores of Congress workers hit the road in support of their leader, raising anti-Modi slogans. Several posters were also put up in the city which read: "Indira Gandhi returns". Priyanka also met several families in the region and inquired about their well-being. She also accused PM Modi for the ongoing distress in the country. Earlier in the day, Priyanka hit out at PM Modi and said that he "only met and greeted the rich" and had no time to meet people from the villages.
