Karnataka Elections 2018: Rs 9 cr cash seized from a car near Bengaluru
Polling in Karnataka is on May 12 while counting of votes will be conducted three days after.
Bengaluru (Karnataka): With elections in the state drawing closer, large amounts of cash are being seized by various surveillance teams appointed by the Election Commission. Reports say approximately Rs 40 crore cash has been recovered from various parts of the poll-bound state.
The latest seizure of Rs 9 crore is from a vehicle near Bengaluru. As per details available, cops recovered the staggering amount from a car near Nelamangala. The car was moving from Bengaluru to Shivamogga (Shimoga).
The car driver when quizzed about the unaccounted cash said that it belonged to a real estate builder and was arranged after a property deal. He, however, failed to produce proper documents for carrying such a huge amount.
According to news agency PTI, over 4 lakh litres of liquor have so far been seized by EC. The poll panel also said the value of cash and jewelry seized by the Income Tax (IT) department in the southern state had gone up by three times to about Rs 25 crore as compared to the last Assembly election.
During the 2013 Assembly polls, the IT department had reportedly seized Rs 4.97 crore of cash and jewelry worth Rs 3.41 crore over the “entire” campaign period, the EC said.
Polling in Karnataka is on May 12 while counting of votes will be conducted three days after.
