With the second list, the Congress has declared a total of 41 candidates for polls to the 90-member assembly. However, talks with the Aam Aadmi Party for pre-poll alliance have remained inconclusive. Some party leaders have expressed reservations over an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal's party.
Earlier on Friday, Congress released its first list of 31 candidates for the Haryana Assembly polls, fielding former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, state unit chief Udai Bhan from Hodal and wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana.
The party, on the same day, in a separate statement, said the CEC had approved the candidature of Balbir Singh from the Israna (reserved for the Scheduled Castes) constituency. Singh is the incumbent MLA from Israna.
Of the 28 sitting MLAs which the party has in the present assembly, the Congress on Friday re-nominated 27 of them. Besides Hooda, Bhan and Phogat, the Congress has also fielded Mewa Singh from Ladwa to take on Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
In the 2019 assembly polls, the Congress had 31 MLAs, but later on party legislator Bhavya Bishnoi had joined the BJP and is a legislator from the ruling party.
The assembly elections in Haryana will take place on October 5 while the counting of votes for the elections to the 90-member assembly will take place on October 8.
