After sweeping the polls, here is what lies ahead for Modi-led NDA

Once Modi meets with President Kovind to stake claim to form government, the date of the swearing in ceremony would be decided. He is most likely to be sworn in on May 30, as per sources.

New Delhi: Now that the results of Lok Sabha elections are out and the BJP-led NDA has swept the polls with absolute majority, the alliance is all set for a second term at the centre. The country will have Narendra Modi as its Prime Minister for another term of five years now. Here is the process that BJP will follow to form government: Staking claim: With a clear majority now, the party along with its PM candidate will meet President Ram Nath Kovind, to stake claim to form the government. Most likely, Modi will meet the President on May 26, sources have informed. Date of swearing-in ceremony: Once, he meets with the President, the date of the swearing in ceremony would be decided. He is most likely to be sworn in on May 30, as per sources. Swearing-in ceremony: The prime minister is required to make and subscribe in the presence of President of India before entering office, the oath of office and secrecy, as per the Third Schedule of the Constitution of India. Modi will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Ram Nath Kovind on May 30. Formation of cabinet: The prime minister is the senior-most member of cabinet in the executive of government in a parliamentary system. The prime minister selects and can dismiss members of the cabinet; allocates posts to members within the government; and is the presiding member and chairperson of the cabinet. PM Modi will then allocate portfolios among the leaders of the ruling coalition NDA to form the Union cabinet of ministers. The union cabinet headed by the prime minister is appointed by the President of India to assist the latter in the administration of the affairs of the executive. Union cabinet is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha as per article 75(3) of the Constitution of India.
