Exam For Final Year Students Mandatory, New Session To Begin In October: UGC

Guidelines state that admissions to first-year courses for 2021-22 to be completed by no later than Sept 30& academic session to commence by Oct 1

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has issued fresh guidelines on examinations & academic calendar in view of COVID to all universities & colleges.

The exam will are mandatory to be conducted by any mode the notice stated. "The Terminal Semester/ Final Year Examinations (2020-2021) be compulsorily conducted in offline (pen & paper)/ online/ blended (online + offline) mode by no later than August 31, 2021, following the prescribed protocols/ guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic". 

According to the fresh guidelines, the academic session 2021-2022 may begin as soon as possible through offline/online/blended modes by following the Covid guidelines issued by the respective government/authority. 

The admission process for first-year students for the session 2021-2022 must be completed by September 30th, 2021 and all vacant seats must be filled by October 31st, 2021 considering school boards like CBSE ICSE & State Boards will issue results by the end of the month of July.

The UGC has called for full refunds in case of cancellation of admission or migration in view of the financial hardships faced by families. "In view of the financial hardships being faced by parents due to lockdowns and related factors, a full refund of fees should be made on account of all cancellations of admissions/ migrations of students up to October 31, 2021 for the academic session 2021-2022 as a special case."

The guidelines issued by the UGC on April 29, 2020 and July 6, 2020, highlighting the modes of teaching, the conduct of examinations, the importance of physical & social distancing etc. should be read along with the present guidelines. 

"The present guidelines regarding the conduct of examinations and commencement of the next academic session, every Higher Education Institution shall ensure that it is prepared in all respects to carry out the academic activities following necessary protocols/guidelines/directions/advisories issued by the Central/State Governments or competent authorities from time to time, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic."
