Rajasthan Govt School Students To Attend Digital Classes Through Doordarshan TV From June 1

To ensure regular education for students without access to smart phones and high-speed internet during the lockdown, I&B has announced that a special academic program will broadcast on Doordarshan Television from June 1.

New Delhi: In a big move to enable Rajasthan government school students get back to their academic activities, the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has allotted a slot on Doordarshan. Ever since the imposition of the nationwide lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country on March 25, all educational institutes were shut forcing students to stay at home. Though the measures were necessary to contain the spread of Coronavirus, the move hampered the academic learning of students. While many private schools adopted for e-leaning, lakhs of students studying in government schools were being deprived of education as they were unable to access the digital platforms. To ensure regular education for students without access to smart phones and high-speed internet during the lockdown, I&B has announced that a special academic program will broadcast on Doordarshan Television from June 1. Earlier, the students in rural areas of Rajasthan were allowed a slot by Akashwani to connect with online education on a request by the education department. Now Doordarshan had also given a slot on a minimal tariff basis for students. Welcoming the move, Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara said  the students without access to smart phones and high-speed internet were being deprived of education. "Now they will be able to study via Doordarshan from June 1." According to an IANS report, the state government had few days back written to the I&B Minister requesting him to allot slots on DD and Akashwani. The aim was to ensure education of students in rural areas. The state Bharatiya Janata Party had also backed the move. Apart from Rajasthan, states like Punjab and Jharkhand have also resorted to 'Studies via DD Television' to prevent students from loss of studies due to the lockdown. The Punjab government on Monday announced to broadcast the curriculum of state-run schools on DD Punjabi channel. Similarly, Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has also announced to air daily education bulletin on DD Jharkhand.
