JEE Main 2020: Can Aspirants From Flood-Affected Areas Seek Re-Examination? Check Details

Bombay High Court said that those who are affected by flood and can't reach the exam centres may apply to the National Testing Agency for re-examination of JEE Mains 2020.

New Delhi: While lakhs of students across India protested against the conduct of the Joint Entrance Examination 2020 (JEE Main 2020) due to the continuous increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country, several raised concerns over travel facilities especially in the flood -hit states like Maharashtra. Hearing the similar plea filed by Nitesh Bawankar, a resident of Bhandara in Maharashtra seeking postponement of the JEE Mains exam, the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court refused to stay the JEE-Main examination but said that students from flood-hit areas can file application seeking re-examination. According to the reports, Nitesh Bawankar in his plea highlighted the problems faced by the students appearing for JEE-Main examination. He said that students residing in flood-hit areas of Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Chandrapur, Gondiaand Gadchiroli districts will find it difficult to appear for the JEE-Main examination. Responding to it, the division bench of Justices R K Deshpande and Pushpa Ganediwala said that those who are affected by flood and can't reach the exam centres may apply to the appropriate authority i.e. the National Testing Agency (NTA) via their centre coordinator for re-examination of JEE Mains 2020. "The situation is grim in several districts due to flood. Students should not suffer for no fault on their part," the bench said. As per the orders issued by the court, the NTA after checking the veracity shall consider the application and decide accordingly. "The National Testing Agency shall then decide on the application after consulting with the district collector concerned within a period of 15 days," bench stated. According to the figures provided by the Government of India, around 8.67 lakh candidates registered for the engineering Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main 2020 which started at 9 am from Tuesday September 1, 2020 and would continue till September 6, 2020 across India at different time slots.
